Being a true and honest account of the lives of the many and diverse
Emperors of the most glorious Varanite Empire presented for the
education of the young gentlemen of the Cear military academy.
Canas of Exodon
The founding father of glorious Varana. Of his life and triumphs all
know. There is no need to dwell on them in these pages.
Pellaithil Phazzan
Pellaithil was the most powerful of Canas's war leaders and a fellow
exile from across the Black Sea. He seized the throne after the death of
Canas, renaming the peoples and nation after himself. He was a despot
and tyrant. He attempted to continue the war with the Eastern lands, but
could not retain support of the army.
Enedtil Minilsuzyan
Sometimes called the second father of Varana. Enedtil lead the heroic
rebellion against the Tyrant Pellaithil Phazzan. He crowned himself
emperor immediately following the beheading of the tyrant in the temple
of Lochwar at Cana. Legend says that he caught the crown before
Pellaithil's head had even hit the ground.
Although Enedtil's reign was bloody, he set down most of the laws
currently existing in Varana to this date. He also changed the name of
the nation back to Varana, as he was a true supporter of Canas. He died
without any heirs, allowing a new lineage to take power.
Burzsarn Tuleon - Marcus I
Burzsam was Emperor Minilsuzyan's designated heir; he held the post of
seneschal in Enedtil's court. His has sometimes been called "the
quartermaster emperor". Minilsuzyan is known to have had a number of
possible rivals and threats to Burzsarn’s rule executed or assassinated
to ensure the succession. Emperor Burzsarn's life was spent enforcing
and building upon the laws that Enedtil created. Burzsarn began the
tradition of the Emperor taking a new praenomen on his ascension in
homage to Lochwar.
Alagyave Tuleon - Siliron I
Alagyave was the first Emperor to take the war to the East since
Pellaithil's unsuccessful attempt. He was more successful, finally
gaining footholds in the barbaric lands of what was to become the
province of Dasaria.
Calencoire Tuleon - Marcus II
Continued the war in the eastern lands, but not out of malice. Marcus II
was interested in gaining lands to add to the wealth of Varana. He
established the mighty fortress Talonhold to hold the lands he had
brought into the empire. Such were Marcus II's gains that it would not
be until the rule of Marcus IV that an Emperor of Varana was able to
make further inroads into the subjugation of the Eastern heathens.
Teledhel Tuleon - Nadja I -
(since his death no emperor has taken this name)
Also known as Nadja the butcher. His first act as emperor was to have
his three brothers killed; his two sisters were quickly married off to
cement important alliances. Teledhel did not sit upon the throne for
long. During his reign he prosecuted a bloody campaign in the eastern
land but ignored growing turmoil and rebellion in the provinces of
Varana itself. Teledhel died in his sleep, from multiple knife wounds.
Novelda Minalkaston - Kain I
Stabilized the inner turmoil within Varana caused by Teledhel’s reign.
Unified Varana as a whole.
Thinmacil Narutur – Kain II
Thinmacil assumed power as the regent to Novelda's infant son, Inanoi.
Following the unfortunate death of the child Thinmacil became Emperor,
adopting the praenomen Kain II as a symbol of his intention to continue
the good works of Emperor Kain I. He proved to be a very capable Emperor
and is credited with creating an intricate spy network to keep Varana
safe from external and internal threats. He was also the first Emperor
to employ the Dark Heralds as his direct eyes and ears in the empire.
Nilalquamegil Narutur - Kain III
Thinmacil's only son, Nilalquamegil, was poorly suited for rule. He
ended his life in the temple of Lochwar before being raised in the
service of Imbeannon Minalkaston.
Imbeannon Minalkaston – Marcus III
Obsessed with reclaiming the empire, Imbeannon was distantly to Kain I
(by marriage). He initially seized power by ritually slaying and then
reanimating Emperor Kain III. Imbeannon raised a host of undead and
opened gates bringing forth demons, his avowed intention being to
finally destroy the Eastern infidels. It was at this time the misguided
Canite Zealots first begin to visably rebel against the true faith.
Imbeannon was forced to turn his forces against these internal foes, as
he could abide no challenger to Lochwar's supremacy.
Amanfalas Dairamik - Siliron II
A devote priest of Lochwar, Amanfalas was called by the god to put aside
his life of spiritual contemplation to restore order to the empire.
Leading a poorly trained army of believers he made sure the last
remnants of Emperor Minalkaston’s unnatural army were destroyed and
brought order back to Varana. His zealous rule also included brutal
suppression of the Canite heresy.
Alkgroth Dairamik - Jlain I
In hindsight Alkgroth was insane, plain and simple. He only took the
throne because he was next in line, but he did an amazing job ruling
considering he was mad. During this time however the Canite heresy
reared its head once more.
Vegwath Dairamik - Siliron III
Vegwath was the oldest son of Alkgroth, taking leadership after his
father’s death. In the first years of his rule he was considered one of
the most benevolent rulers. Vegwath had begun work to restore Varana to
its prior greatness and splendour, without much of the bloodshed of
previous rulers. However like his father before him he suffered from
manias. Vegwath became obsessed with brokering a cowardly peace with the
Eastern heathens. As signs of his mental unbalance grew his brother
Tolorian was forced to take the throne. Vegwath died peacefully in his
sleep. In modern Varana he no longer veiwed favourably.
Tolorian Dairamik - Jlain II
After seeing his brother’s plans for Varana, Tolorian made the brave and
noble decision to have his brother removed from power and assumed the
throne. Jlain II lauched a new crusade against the eastern lands. A head
strong ruler Jlain II insisted on going on campaign with "his men",
sadly he died of dysentery.
Hallaathrad Dairamik - Eioni I
Following the death Jlain II in battle the Canite heresy took on a more
sinister tone than ever before with cities and even whole provinces
falling into heresy. Although a weak and indecisive ruler Hallaathrad
was blessed with gifted military advisors, not the least of which was
his younger brother. It was through their able support that Hallaathrad
was finally able to put down the Canite rebellion and return focus to
the enlightenment of the misguided east. However even on the eve of the
greatest victory since the rule of Marcus II new reached Hallaathrad's
noble brother that the emperor was consorting with the enemies of the
state against the very empire he was sworn to protect. There could be
only one just outcome of such treachery
Markrion Dairamik - Marcus IV
Current Emperor of Varana. An enlightened and noble ruler. Under his
benevolent leadership the Empire has entered a new golden age. |
