Dr. Lucif slowly drummed his fingers on the glass desk, dimming the lights to his lab as he reveiwed John's mission log. Losing patience, Lucif jabbed the touch screen moniter, and dragged his finger across the bottom of the screen, fast-forwarding the video recording from John's helmet to the point where he encountered the strange creature that botched the whole operation. Lucif remebered how close they had been to capturing Anomaly 95307. The unique anomaly... so close...
Lucif rubbed the sore on the back of his skull. Perhaps a little too close...
((right click, and open in a new tab for "soundtrack" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xsz497IqoH0
)) Lucif shook his head as the monster vanished into thin air on the video feed. Whatever this thing was, it was as strong as a fully-armored paladin, and just as fast. But the strangest feature of the creature had yet to come. The garbled sound of the beast's growls and John's grunting intensified as the mystery specimen bit into John's neck, then desperatley hopping back, howling in pain. It directly consumes the blood of it's victims, but silver is not lethal to it, rather just a deterrent...
Lucif squinted, examining the wounds John had inflicted upon it. It appears only to regenerate when it feeds...
Lucif sat back into his chair as the creature knocked john out in the video, the camera jostling as clawed foot met armored skull. Lucif looked up at the ceiling, flicking his hair away from his face. Then there was a strange sound emanating from the mission log. It was similar to the sound of an anomaly transforming. Lucif's eyes went wide, and in a burst of motion, Lucif sat forward and remwinded that section of the mission log, intently watching the screen. Lucif's jaw dropped as the pale beast transformed into a human. As the person on-screen glanced back at the camera, Lucif froze the frame, zoomed in, and enhanced the picture. He knew that face! It was the exact same face of the guard riding the back on an anomaly during the recent breakout.

Outside, the sun began to set, and Cat and I were preparing to transform. It seemed like a bad idea to change right in front of Ben and Larry, but Larry assured us his "borrowed" stun gun would keep us at bay, if it all went bad. Cat and I stood in the center of the living room, Ben and Larry peaking over a nearby couch. They didn't really listen when we told them it would take a lot more than a couch
to stop a pair of angry werewolves. Larry cocked the stun gun as the living room was plunged into shadow, the sun just a sliver over the ocean outside the living room window.
Then all hell broke loose. We heard what sounded like a drag race outside, then, the back end of hunter squad vehicle smashed into Larry's house, the reinforced doors bursting into the room with an explosion of glass and splintered wood. The squad leader barked orders left and right as Cat tried to run while I charged at the hunter giving orders. "Neutralize the anomal- @#$%! Use the delayer on the runner! Farcy, take this guy out!" The nearest hunter whipped around, leveling his shotgun at my chest. Just as he pulled the trigger, the change began. My claws ripped across his helmet, smashing the visor and demolishing his face. Screaming in surprise and pain, the hunter's shot went wide, blowing a basketball-sized hole in the couch Ben and Larry took cover behind. Fur rippled over my transforming body as another hunter drew a strange weapon that looked like something out of a sci-fi movie.
With a sharp report, the weapon fired, the shot nailing Cat right between the shoulderblades. Her transformation halted, then began reverting! She lay flat on the ground, motionless. I snarled, and pounced on the shooter, my claws tearing into his ribcage. There was a rapid series of crunches as I landed with my full weight, the hapless hunter beneath me. His pained cries were cut short as his lungs were crushed. Cat was moving again! Out of nowhere, the lead hunter scooped her up, Cat doing nothing to fight him off as he dashed for the squad vehicle. I tensed my legs to jump at him, but a small can skittered on the floor just in front of me. What the @#$% was tha- BLASH!!!
My vision whited out, my ears ringing. I swiped wildly, trying to kill something, anything I could to stop them from taking Cat.
There was a rush of an engine, and I knew what was happening. Not again!!! Roaring, I chased the sound as my senses slowly returned to me. There were screams as the vehicle barreled past the people I had known for two years, and I was in hot persuit. I was going as fast as I could, slowly gaining on the squad vehicle. I heard the hunters yelling inside, along with Cat's drowsy pleas for help; "Take that &^%$#@ out! He's four meters and %$*(* closing like a goddamn fighter jet! We can't use live rounds with this many civilians downrange! What the @#$% to you mean we're out
of stun grenades?! Did the %$*(* thing eat
'em?! Well, throw SOMETHING
at it!!!" The vehicle's turret hatch cracked open, and I leapt at the vehicle, my claws latching onto the opening. I heard the hunters exclaim within as I pulled my huge mass on top of the vehicle, poking my face into the hatch, growling and snapping.
Screaming, on of the hunters started slashing at me with a combat knife, the blade nearly lopping my nose off. Another hunter tried to get me off of the vehicle by kicking me square in the nose. Yeah, like that was gonna -OWW!!! Yelping in surprise at the sharp pain, I reared back snarling, still firmly gripping the hatch opening. I felt a burning pain in one of my paws. Yowling, I pulled back my hand, a sizzling gash across my palm. If I had to lose a hand to save Cat, no problem. Then, the butt of a shotgun slammed right into my snout, and into my other hand as the lead hunter yelled at the other one for dropping his knife. Growling, I reared up, standing atop the squad vehicle. Then, the worst possible thing happened. The lead hunter leveled his sci-fi gun at me, and shot it right into my face. I howled in rage, rolling off of the vehicle as my body went limp. I slammed into the street, the asphalt scraping my thinning, furless skin.((ok, close the other song if it's still going, and switch to this one; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ-JDeaKaBU
after all, gotta have the right music
)) I lazily looked at the stunned bystanders, a handful of them gasping in surprise. What was happening... I tried to growl at them, make them go away, but all that came out was my human voice. I couldn't beleive what was happening.
I wiggled up to my feet, lathargically covering my groin, and walking... anywhere. Just not the middle of the street. I shambled toward a dark space between two buildings, but a pair of hands gently grabbed my shoulders, and turned me to face the person attached to the quaking fingers. The person let go of me, stepping back. I couldn't see who it was, my vision was still about as good as drunken cow's. "Alex..? What the hell happened?" Mumbling, I hunched over, desperate to somehow make my bare body vanish as I realised who it was. Cat's sister didn't say another word once my vision cleared, and I weakly pointed at Larry's house, walking toward the ruined building.

John walked with Lucif down the narrow corridor, Lucif filling him in on the recent fiasco as they walked. "We captured Anomaly 95306, but her mate, now code-named "Fenrir", was left in a witness-rich area, and was undoubtedly seen during the reverse-tranformation. Ever more complications... We'll need to be speaking to Staff Sgt. Witticker about his usage of the transformation-delayer. He didn't have any other real options, mind you, but I'm sure you'll have your own opinion on the matter once you see the mission record. As for your
little snafu," Lucif opened the door to the darkened interrogation room, shutting the door behind John as he entered. Kayla sat on the other end of the table, eyes wide with fear as Lucif strode into the single, narrow column of light, his narrow glasses glinting like the edge of a knife. "So, tell us exactly
what happened, girl. Do try not to omitt any details. Or John here will have to show you just how strong

I sat on Larry's demolished couch, staring at my hands... waiting for Something, anything, to happen. Whatever they shot me with, made me change back... And it didn't look like it was gonna wear off any time soon. Larry glanced at the blood on the floor, then at me, then outside his -well, part
of his living room window. "Why aren't the cops coming?" Ben asked, wringing his hands.
Larry opened his mouth to speak, but I beat him to it; "They don't need to. A Hunter team's gonna be here in a few hours. Witnesses... The whole town's just a big loose end for them to tie up..."
"Or cut off" Larry piped in.
Ben's eyes flew wide open as he said; "Wait, like-th-they're just gonna tell us not to say anything, right?!"
Larry and I both shook our heads. Larry responded; "Anyone who doesn't say exactly what 'they' wanna hear... gets 'dealt with'."
Cat's sister finally spoke up; "What're we gonna do?! Just stay here and wait for 'em to fuckin' kill us?"
Larry nodded, saying; "Unless we vanish
, in say..." Larry glanced at his watch, scratching his thick stubble, then said; "-Half an hour, yeah, pretty much."
She jabbed me with her thumb, and said; "If these guys are so fuckin good, then how's he still alive?!"
Larry smirked, and retorted; "You saw him earlier, right? Try telling something like that
to stop and answer a few questions."
"That laser thing they had seemed to do a good fuckin' job." She said.
Larry was clearly running out of patience. "Yeah, but if they didn't use that thing, they coulda just said he was a fuckin bear, like they always do." I stood up, walked over to the miraculously intact table on the other end of the room, and grabbed my backpack. Larry got up, too, and dug around in his jacket pocket, yanking out a pair of keys a couple second later. "But, we got half an hour, which leaves the town under police jurisdiction untill they arrive... so, any police vehicles have free range to go wherever they need to go, to 'enforce the law'. By the way, Alex, I've never seen a kid ditch a house party so fast before..." Larry winked, flipping his keys into the air, catching them with a flourish. I finally remebered why he sounded so familiar! He was the cop who busted Victor's party!"
I smiled, shaking my head as I said; "I don't fuckin'
beleive it..." Larry opened the door into his garage, and beckoned us to follow. Shutting the door, he flicked on the lights. A police squad-car sat in the cramped garage, gleaming in the flourescent light. I looked at Ben; "So... how do you know him?" Ben grinned at me, saying nothing, as Larry chuckled, opening both side-doors to the car.
Sliding into the driver's seat, he activated the manual control, imitating a line from a classic action movie; "Come with me if you want to live." Ben snickered as the three of us got in. Larry pushed the button for his garage opener, and set the windows to maximum tint, opening the center console, saying; "Yeah, too bad I had to go catch a couple pothead kids while some 'bears' broke into my house..." It took me a second to figure out what he meant, but I knew exactly what he was saying when he wiggled a bag full of marijuana in front of the backseat divider-window. "If anybody looks, try to look guilty or something..." He said, starting the car. I sighed, staring into space. It was a long way to where I knew
they took Cat, and I had no fuckin' idea where Victor was. On top of everything, I couldn't change... I couldn't protect my friends from the hunters... But what happens when the change comes back? Who would protect them from me?
